IAS 2010
International Affairs Seminar
March 20-27, 2010
WHAT IS IT?
Welcome to the International Affairs Seminar 2010 sponsored by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Great River, Oklahoma and Southwest Regions. Along with other high school juniors and seniors from Disciples of Christ congregations in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, you will be visiting two amazing cities - Washington, D.C. and New York City.
In addition to seeing sights and making friends, you will have one of the most educational experiences of your life! You will be challenged! You will hear views expressed by people on several sides of complex issues. Our hope is not that you will come around to another way of thinking; instead, we hope that these diverse patterns of thinking will help you grow, ultimately finding your place in this world. Each participant is required to complete assignments relative to the trip’s theme. We invite all Disciple high school Juniors and Seniors to apply to join in the IAS '10 experience.
WHO CAN GO?
Juniors and seniors in high school, at least 16 years of age, from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations in Oklahoma, Southwest, and Great River Regions.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
In Washington, D.C. we will visit National City Christian Church, tour the Holocaust Museum, take a tour of national monuments, visit museums and meet with legislative delegations. In New York City, we will visit the United Nations, attend challenging seminars, visit ground zero, and see a Broadway musical. Each evening we will process the day’s events and worship together.
HOW WILL WE GET THERE?
We will meet Saturday, March 20, to fly as a group and travel between the two cities by Amtrac train
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to & from the airport.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The Seminar cost is $1,500 which includes airfare, Amtrak between DC and NYC, insurance, lodging, materials, speakers, the Broadway musical, and a tour of DC. Participants will need a minimum of $500 for meals and other items not included in the registration fee (shopping, sightseeing, subway fares, etc.) Scholarship aid might be available through your local church and civic groups. Many participants have their trip costs covered . For more Information and ideas about paying for this once in a lifetime experience, call Rev. Ronny Nowell at 479-636-2230 or email at ronny@fccrogers.org
A $500 deposit is required by Dec. 15, 2009. Balance is due January 31, 2010.
